PIO, Columbus Municipal School District
Columbus School District reported a total of three bomb-sniffing K-9s from Columbus Air Force Base and the Mississippi Highway Patrol cleared the Columbus High School
campus, finding no evidence of a bomb in the school. Students were evacuated at approximately 10:45 am, following an anonymous call to 911. All students were moved quickly to the CHS Football Stadium in a safe and orderly manner. Parents were allowed to check out their children, with the remaining students being bused home with no incident.
The authorities have a suspect who is being questioned, as the investigation continues into today’s threat. Administrators, parents, teachers, and students want this senseless act to end and are working closing with authorities to identify the responsible party.
Students who have vehicles in the CHS parking lot will be able to retrieve their cars at 6:00 p.m. tonight. School will resume a regular schedule Thursday, February 23, 2012.
Columbus School District wants to extend a thank-you to all of our outstanding emergency responders who have worked to ensure the safety of the students and staff at Columbus High School.

If the report on WCBI is correct that buses were used to transport the students 1/4 of a mile to the soccer stadium wouldn’t it have been quicker to have the teachers and administrators along the route to keep the students moving orderly and have specific rally points for each class to check that everyone made it successfully. How long did it take to get enough buses to the site and transport the people. At what cost and possible exposure to the student population?
